Main Causes of Skin Sagging

Aging:

Aging is a natural process that you cannot stop.  As you age the skin loses the collagen and elastin, the fibrous protein tissues that support the outer layer of skin diminish and weaken, thereby causing your skin to sag, wrinkle, and crease.
Facial muscles also weaken due to age and cannot give the support to maintain the firmness of skin that leads to more exposure to the dreaded pull of gravity thereby causing loosening of skin and sag.

Sun exposure:

Exposure to the sun is another reason for skin losing its elasticity as it damages the skin cells and retards their ability to rebound from gravitational pull. Ultraviolet rays of the sun break down your skin collagen and elastin that leading to sagging of skin and wrinkles.

Weight loss:

The skin of an obese person is stretched beyond its flexibility limit and when such a person loses weight, especially the loss of large amounts of weight over a short period of time, it may cause sagging of skin. Sagging of skin may also occur as a result of extreme dieting.

Smoking:

Smoking dries out the skin and reduces the available moisture that is responsible for keeping skin plump and full. It reduces the blood supply to the skin by narrowing the blood vessels that can cause changes in skin elastic fibers and loss of collagen and also in the level of Vitamin A.

Chronic Inflammation:

Chronic inflammation is often called silent inflammation which is not associated with any illness or injury. It is also not accompanied by any pain or symptoms. Inflammation damages and degrades the skin’s elastic fibers.

Preventive measures and cure for skin sagging

It is impossible to stop the aging process, bad effects of ultraviolet rays and smoking, on your skin. However, developing healthy skincare habits, eating the right kind of food, and taking some preventive measures can reduce the premature sign of aging and sagging of skin.

Right kind of diet

Eat foods that are rich in Vitamins C and E. Such food has powerful antioxidant properties that eliminate free radicals from the body, promoting health and firm skin. You can include blueberries, kiwi, papaya, sweet potato, and broccoli in the daily diet for Vitamin C-rich food, and for Vitamin E eat wheat germ oil, sunflower seeds, and almonds.

Use of Natural Oils

Use products that contain natural oil like coconut oil, glycerin, and shea butter. These products will keep the skin moisturized and prevent your skin from sagging. Natural oils can help in preventing the formation of free radicals as well as keep the skin’s connective tissues supple and strong.

Limit Exposure to Sun

Ultraviolet rays of sunlight break down and prevent the regeneration of collagen and elastin so you should limit the exposure to the sun. Apply sunscreen of SPF 3O half an hour before going outside. As far as possible try to avoid the sun between 10 A.M and 4 P.M. when the intensity of sun rays is very high.

Stop Smoking

Do not smoke a cigarette as it reduces the blood supply to the skin by narrowing blood vessels that cause the skin to sag and premature aging. Smoking also deprives the skin of oxygen and nutrients that keep the skin firm and healthy.

Reduce Stress

Stress has a direct impact on your health as well as your skin. Therefore, keep a check on factors that cause stress and try to reduce the same. You can meditate, perform yoga, listen to music, or perform breathing exercises to control stress in your life.

Cures for Skin Sagging

There is a number of solutions to cure skin sagging from skin tightening therapy, exercises, and non-surgical facelift to mini facelift and surgical facelift. Mini facelifts and surgical facelifts are forms of facial plastic surgery. These treatments are quite costly and may have some side effects. These treatments cannot be performed on all and prior permission of medical practitioners is necessary.
