Diarrhea is the condition when the stool of a person develops an increase in liquidity, frequency, etc. If the stool is loose and watery and the person is feeling a frequent need empty the bowels then this may be a condition of diarrhea. Chronic diarrhea remains longer than 4 weeks and maybe the outcome of an intestinal medical issue (such as IBS).
Variety of causes like food intolerance/allergies, microbial infection, negative reaction to new medication, functional bowel problems, gallbladder/stomach surgery, parasitical infection, food poisoning, etc. trigger the issue. Chronic diarrhea may be caused due to irritable or inflammatory bowel problem so in case of such a functional bowel issue, it is a must for all to visit the physician right away.
Common symptoms of the condition include nausea, cramping, dehydration (due to loss of hydration through watery stool), abdominal pain, fever, bloody stools, bloating, etc. The problem is characterized by the frequent urge to empty the bowels so it is the central symptom, common to all.
To prevent dehydration during diarrhea, one should take more fluids (water, juices, sports-energy drinks, etc.). One must always keep away from unhygienic substances while traveling to reduce the changes in microbial and parasitical infections. Acupressure is one of the best effective ways to relieve the issue. It has no side effects like other treatments.
In this therapy, the pressure is applied to the acupoints that increase blood circulation and stimulate the body’s natural self-curative abilities. Acu-points are given in the figure. All these points are by-focal that means both sides of the body. Details on how to apply pressure on the points are given at “How to apply pressure on acupoints?”
Precaution: If you are suffering from any chronic disease, long-standing illness or from a disorder involving tissue change or degeneration, you should not do acupoint stimulation. Pressure should also not be applied to acupoints before or after 1/2 hour of taking a hot water bath or taking your meal.
