Understanding what fibromyalgia means
Fibromyalgia is a disease in which a person feels unreasoned pain all over the body. It is a health condition, which lasts long and is referred to as FMS-fibromyalgia syndrome as well. People with fibromyalgia are usually quite sensitive to pain, always tired even when there is no physical activity or exercise; also these people may find it very difficult to focus on the day to day duties and often have stiffness in body muscles. There is no diagnosis or test, which will detect fibromyalgia in a person, but just like all other diseases, there are alarming signs of fibromyalgia which vary from person to person. The exact cause of fibromyalgia is, however, unknown but some experts say that stress, chemical imbalances or genetics, etc., may act as one of the causes of fibromyalgia.
Alarming signs of fibromyalgia that you must know are:
Chronic body pain
Body pain is spread all over the body even without any physical activity, which may lead to such pain. This pain may vary in type for instance; some may feel repetitive burning sensations all over the body while the others may feel strongly hitting pain.
Diarrhea/constipation
It is caused due to irritable bowel syndrome which leads to pain and irritation in the bowel.
Extreme tiredness or fatigue
The majority of people with fibromyalgia have this symptom in common and at times, the level of tiredness felt by them is so high that they may even ignore doing routine activities.
Depression and anxiety
Constant body pain and fatigue can lead to the inability of performing daily tasks, which can further lead to an anxiety issue. People with fibromyalgia may also fall prey to depression as they constantly feel low and lose interest in their otherwise favorite things or activities.
Stiffness in muscles:
Fibromyalgia patients may often face stiffness in muscles (especially in the joints); some people may also have constant urge to move their hands or legs due to such stiffness. However, a fibromyalgia patient with a good immune system can get over this stiffness quite fast and carry on his routine without any discomfort.
Not a ` good night’s sleep’:
People with fibromyalgia find it very difficult to have a good sleep and often wake up restless and irritated. Constant body pain and function of neurotransmitters are one of the main reasons that are responsible for sleep discomforts in fibromyalgia patients.
The `Fibro-fog’:
This is a type of cognitive function issue wherein a person’s mental health is affected and people with this dysfunction find it very difficult to concentrate; their learning process is low while some may face low confidence levels and unclear or slow speech.
Fibromyalgia symptoms differ from one individual to others that are often neglected by people as minor illness or aches. If you are facing a few or many of the above-mentioned symptoms then chances are that these are the alarming signs of fibromyalgia. Depending upon your fitness level and stress level the symptoms of fibromyalgia can even get worse. Hence, it is always advised to maintain good physical as well as mental health and keep the above symptoms in check.
