Types Of Skin and Ways to Determine Your Skin Type

Identify your type of skin

Nature has endowed each being with a protection cover, the skin, which saves the human body from changing the environment and is crucial for our survival and maintaining a healthy body. The skin acts as a shield of the body and takes all the negativity on itself. Besides, skin care varies a lot for different types of skin. It may become dry, oily, dehydrated, or sensitive among other conditions. This may be affected by age, health conditions, or lifestyle. To maintain healthy skin you will have to protect, care, and heal the skin.

TYPES OF SKIN
Different types of skin

A good skincare routine for any skin type always starts from within as skin reflects your health condition. Skin regularly cleaned and nourished helps in getting rid of various skin problems. The harsh sun rays and pollution take away the freshness of the skin. With proper care, not only the natural texture and complexion of the skin can be retained, but you can also achieve ever-young, glowing skin, free from acne, scars, sunburns, dark under-eye circles, and wrinkles.

Types of Skin

Before starting care of the skin you should know the type of your skin. There are five types of skin:

1. Normal skin

2. Dry skin

3. Oily skin

4. Combination skin

5. Sensitive skin

Tissue Test

Wash your face with mild soap or any cleanser and rinse with normal water. Wipe and dry your face with the towel, do not rub your face. After an hour cover your face with single-ply tissue paper and press lightly. Leave the tissue for about one minute. Then remove the paper carefully and examine it in bright light.

  • If you do not find a sign of oil, most likely you have dry skin.
  • If you find little oil throughout tissue paper, your type of skin is normal.
  • If you see oil throughout tissue paper, you most likely have oily skin.
  • If you see oil across the forehead, chin, and nose (in the T-zone area); you most likely have combination skin.
  • If you feel irritation, itching, you most likely have sensitive skin.

You should do tissue tests after every few months i.e. in summer, spring, winter, and rainy season, as your skin changes with the season.

Extreme hot or cold conditions aggravate the skin issues in dry skin. A normal face wash makes the skin dry and rough. Not to worry, a simple regime can make the skin soft and even. Read more

Oily skin:

Skin becomes oily due to the overactivity of sebaceous glands beneath your skin. Like dry skin, oily skin can also be due to hereditary reasons. The owner of oily skin feels the skin greasy and problematic. The oil glands under the skin are overly active causing an excess layer of oil on the skin. This results in clogging of pores and acne problems. Regular and precise care can make skin problem-free and beautiful. Read more

Combination skin:

Combination skin is the mixed variations of oily and dry skin. This skin type itself has innumerable types. A person may feel some portions of the skin are oilier than others. Sensitive skin:

Sensitive skin may be dry or oily. The most distinguishing part of sensitive skin is that it is highly reactive and delicate. It can be very itchy, rashly, and allergic. It requires maximum care and specialized attention. Read more
